The Dream House Paper Sculptures
Multimedia
Once the second graders completed their blueprints, they set to work building 3d models of their dream homes. The homes reflect not only the specificities of each students dream house but also how an idea can evolve and change during the process of building.
Basquiat Woodpanel Drawings
Mixed media on wood
Inspired by Basquiat's paintings, they zoomed in on the symbols and messages that were embedded in his artwork. The second graders came up with their own messages that they wish to send out to the public with their unique artwork. Basquiat often scratched out words in his artwork and our visiting author/illustrator, Javarka Steoptoe, shared that this was a technique to get the viewers to be curious and pay more attention to the hidden message. Find out what our students' messages were!
